Na de verbanning uit Gan Eden moeten de Ish en Isha zelf voor hun onderhoud voorzien en een gezin uitbouwen dat mee moet bijdragen in de levensvoorzieningen. Maar in het vierde hoofdstuk van de Bereshith zien wij ook dat de mens toch nog een zekere getrouwheid aan God wenste te tonen door Hem ook offergaven te brengen.
