Het Boek Bereshith of de Genesis wil een krachtig signaal geven wie er achter het universum met haar plantenrijk, dierenrijk en mensdom staat. Hiervoor gebruikt de schrijver soms ook een dubbele betiteling om de toehoorders of lezers duidelijk te maken dat het over Die Ene Ware God gaat die boven alle andere goden staat. Zo laat Moshe in zijn 2° hoofdstuk zien hoe de mens in de Gan Eden wordt geplaatst.
Vooraleer wij verder kijken naar de samenvatting die Moshe vervolgens geeft over de begintijd, staan wij even stil bij de zevende dag en een rustende God.

In the second chapter of the Bereshith light is shed on the day that יהוה Elohim made earth and heavens and created a beautiful Royal Garden where man, made in the image of God, could live in peace, with the animals, to which he receives rulership (not ownership over the earth).
The Bible opens with the story of the beginning of everything, presenting the six periods of development (six days of creation) and the final period of establishment or rest.

Ook al denken velen dat er naast hun lichamelijk wezen een geestelijk wezen bestaat is zulks een gedachte van een buiten-wezenlijk onderdeel van de mens, een zogenaamde ziel, onschriftuurlijk. De ziel is het wezen zelf dat door de verkeerde keuze van de eerste mens tot de dood of verval tot stof veroordeeld is.
Na orde in het heelal gebracht te hebben en luchten en nevelen en waters gescheiden te hebben ging de Schepper over tot het maken van levende elementen in de waters op aarde en op het land van de aardbol.
